The Edna Manley College’s School of Drama (SoDr), formerly known as the Jamaica School of Drama (JSD), grew out of the work of the Little Theatre Movement(LTM). Originally established to teach basic theatre skills to potential cast members of the annual LTM Pantomime, the SoDr has grown extensively to provide world-class and culturally relevant training to numerous individuals across the Caribbean and the world. The School offers comprehensive programmes at the Bachelor Degree and Diploma levels. Delivered by a Faculty of trained and experienced professionals, the curriculum of the School consists of a combination of theatre, social research, analysis, community service and education.
The Role of Productions and Workshops in Curriculum The major productions of the school provide a pivotal vehicle through which the students integrate and demonstrate skills being learnt in their relevant programme. Each year the school provides senior students with valuable theatre experience by staging two (2) major productions that are directed by Faculty members and/or guest directors. Workshop productions of two short plays are also produced each year under the directorship of two graduates.
